Birth Doula
What does a birth doula do?
- Stays with the laboring parent through the birth process.
- Provides physical comfort measures, emotional support and informational support for informed decision making.
- Assist birthing parent in creating and carrying out birth plans and preferences.
- Aids in facilitating communication between the laboring parent, support partner and clinical care provider.
- Encourages the partner to participate and meets them at their comfort level.
Postpartum Doula
What does a postpartum doula do?
- Understands the emotional, hormonal and physical changes of the postpartum time can be momentous.
- Cares for the client and their family in their home in the early postpartum period.
- Assist with meal preparation.
- Light household organization and tidying.
- Evidence based support for newborn feeding.
- Newborn care and sibling care.
- Provides non-medical emotional and physical support.
- Provides additional resources and referrals when/if necessary.
- Encourages rest for the healing family.
